“Twin souls” – international cultural and art project of National Museum of Taras Shevchenko with the participation of a Spanish sculptor and painter Carlos Garcia Laos supported by Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Ukraine, the Department of Culture of Aragon province, the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, and the CO “Restoration of Donbass” and volunteer charitable organization “House of Goodness”.

G. Shevchenko’s graphic works from the NMTSh collection and copies of etchings from the original boards of Francisco de Goya’s from the “Caprichos” series, which are stored in Francisco de Goya’s museum collection in the city of Zaragoza (Spain), are represented. Between past and present – abstract sculptures of Carlos Garcia Laos’s with deep conceptual content: Maternity, Hypocrisy, Essence, Loneliness, Humanism, Beginning – End, Symbiosis, Soul, Art.

The project highlights the moral and ethical problems of humanity regardless of time and space. They emerged together with human civilization and with its development only worsened and became keener. We say that modern society is experiencing moral disorientation and moral “fall”.

That is what Francisco de Goya showed in his works in the early nineteenth century in Spain, and in the middle of the nineteenth century – Taras Shevchenko in Ukraine. The artists were working in times when their nation needed moral and ethical guidelines and self-determination. Shevchenko had – “Picturesque Ukraine”, “Suite of Loneliness”, “The Parable of the Prodigal Son”, Francisco de Goya – “Caprichos”, “Horrors of War”, “Parables”.

The social part of the event is represented by works of children from the ATO area (projects “Donbass: Peace in Focus” and “Return Peace to Me”), as well as children with special needs within the social project “House of Goodness “, who express the acute reflection of what is happening around in their drawings.

The combination of the works of genius painters of the past, present artist and children’s works in one space helps better understand and hear each other, think about the social problems that Taras Shevchenko highlighted in his works in Ukraine, Francisco de Goya and Carlos Garcia Laos in Spain, and which are currently central today, everywhere and any time.

The exhibition will be on display at the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko from 7 to 23 April.

Opening: April 7 at 19:00.

April 12 at 15:00 – Master Class.
